Sirowa Sacco Partners with Ahero Irrigation Scheme Farmers

Sirowa Sacco, a leading savings and credit cooperative society in Kenya, has announced a new partnership with Ahero Irrigation Scheme Farmers. The partnership aims to provide much-needed financing to farmers in the Ahero irrigation scheme, which is the biggest irrigation scheme in Luoland, covering approximately 2,000 acres and including over 70 farmer groups totaling approximately 1,200 farmers.

The partnership will provide three types of financing to farmers: harvest financing, input financing, and farming financing. Harvest financing will cost KES 7,000 per acre, while input financing, which includes seeds, herbicides, and fertilizers, will cost KES 15,000 per acre. Farming financing, which covers all costs from flooding to harvest, will cost KES 25,000 per acre. This financing will help farmers access the necessary resources to increase their yields and improve their overall productivity.

For the past 60 years, the Ahero irrigation scheme has been financed by other banks and foreigners. However, Sirowa Sacco is now stepping up to provide financing to the farmers. The sacco is encouraging farmers to join and save with Sirowa, so that the organization can lend their saved funds to finance their fellow farmers. In addition, Sirowa Sacco is offering a competitive interest rate of 18% per year on ordinary savings.

This partnership is an important step towards improving the agricultural sector in Kenya. By providing farmers with the necessary financing, Sirowa Sacco is enabling them to improve their yields, which will not only benefit the farmers themselves but also the entire community.
